Construction Engineering Management Program (CEMP)

Construction Industry requires Managerial/Supervisory intervention for adequate control & appropriate delivery of constructed projects. This can be achieved through creating proficient construction engineering management personnel. Inadequate controls lead to failed projects and looking at the current state of affairs, it can be observed that construction industry has high requirements in this direction. Currently, such professionals get cultivated through years of working exposure but the population of such individuals is quite limited. Moreover, the knowledge acquired by such professionals is generally informal, linked to the specifics of projects undertaken by an individual, which may be lacking on some critical aspects required for other types of challenges.

To meet the industry requirement of enhanced numbers, solution is to develop a cadre of fresh graduate engineers, interested to work in construction industry in managerial capacities, having adequate managerial proficiencies. Solution to other issue is to formally train working professionals to enhance their overall proficiencies. Construction Engineering Management Program provides both of these solutions and aims to cultivate an elite cadre of construction managers, having necessary managerial/supervisory proficiencies, capable to serve the Construction Industry and deliver projects successfully.

Construction Engineering Management Program deals with the functions of managers/supervisors for the identified competencies to enable trained candidates meeting the project demands efficiently. Program is built on a modular system to be delivered through contact classes followed by a project work. It is planned as a fully residential program to provide first-hand exposure of ground realities of construction project working to the trainees. Program is structured with 30% lectures and 70% hands-on work followed by 2 month project work.

CEMP is to be conducted under the guidance of an Academic Council having representation of the industry captains to bring objectivity in the learning process. Program delivery is planned through the lectures of working professionals supported by academicians practicing in the industry. Proficiencies identified include Site camp management, Works Supervision, Cost Estimating and bidding, Construction contracts, Construction project management, Time and Cost Management, and Banking & finance. To succeed in this program trainees have to demonstrate their understanding and problem solving skills in each of these seven identified fields.
