In order to streamline and evolve construction best practices including training and skill updation of
construction workforce to create a dedicated resource pool of skilled manpower for the Construction
Industry, Construction Industry Development Council (CIDC) is currently working on training initiatives in
the North-East for Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region. (DONER)
The main objective of this programme is to impart training to candidates from the North-Eastern Region
in various construction trades. The candidates are mainly unemployed from BPL background & dropout
or discontinued education after secondary level.
The training is provided keeping in mind the latest technological developments and advancements in the
sector to enhance the youth gain meaningful employment after completing the training.
200 candidates have already been imparted Vocational Training under this scheme. The trainees have
been selected from Cachar & Barak region of Assam state, Manipur state & also from upper Assam
region. Selections are continuing in Tripura state as well. The students are imparted an orientation
training of 15 days duration at CIDC centre in Silchar and then avail hands on experience deputation
through at live work sites.
The programme is of 3 months duration and weekly performance tests are conducted followed by final
examination. The certification is completed thereafter, and the trainee is given an opportunity to
participate in the placement meets organized every month.
Through this structured training, within a short span of time, the candidates are able to get the exposure
to the recent trends and best practices in construction industry.
This CIDC initiative has helped raise awareness of all stakeholders towards the problem of all inclusive
and braodbased development and growth. It is believed that such initiatives undertaken by CIDC for
North East will not only help the beneficiaries of the region, but also encourage many others to utilize
this training programme for future development and benefit of the construction industry.
